It is a fact that planning in advance prevents any plan malfunction. Planning things for a vacation presents one with that interesting result - the more you plan, the more chance of you to have excitement and fun. And, the law of preparedness reaffirms this. Another law states that if it is a good idea to plan something, it is also good to have an alternate or substitute plan; if possible more than one. For instance, what are your plans if you lose your luggage or belongings or tickets on the way? How will you fill the void, if the amusement park or some other attraction you had planned to visit after travelling long distances stay closed for the day due to some unexpected happenings?
Sometimes, aged people measure the worth of a trip by the speed with which one can get from one place to another. Just being able to say that one had a good time is not surely the mark of a vacation well spent. Replace asking the question ‘how sooner can we reach that place’ by the question ‘how many ways are there before us to make this an enjoyable occasion for everyone?’ The result you want is to be able to say that you had a really great time. Here the point is not only in making good time, but also to make good memories.
While travelling with family, particularly with small children, it is vital to note that their concept of time is completely different from that of elder people. As a result, the perceptions and concepts they hold regarding many things are vastly different from that of ours. When it comes to time or some other conceptual area, one needs to put it in a way so that they understand it easily. If you are interested in going to a particular place at the same time you went the previous year to see the same people, then go ahead and, by all means, enjoy and have a nice time. But if the trip has been planned just to honour an obligation, it would be better to break with that routine and begin a few new traditions of one’s own.
Some people struggle with a feeling similar to Monday blues, as they get back to work and routine life after enjoying a brief vacation period. One way to overcome this is by scheduling some activity after two or three weeks of you returning from the vacation. It has been noticed that many families complain that they feel the need of a vacation from their immediately concluded vacation once they return. The main reason is that these people try to plan their vacations in the same way as they do regarding their lives. This results in irritation, discontentment and disappointment. Finally, if the aim of you going on vacations is to see as many different people and places within a few days’ time, you need to stop and change your strategy and goals. Anyway, why keep aims on vacation. It is perhaps time to slow down or even stop. Go at a slow pace and start relaxing; and then it will occur to you that it really does not matter, like everything else.
