Amarnath is considered to be as one of major Hindu Dhams. The sacred and sanctified cave is the dwelling of the divine trinity, Lord Shiva.

The holy cave of Amarnath is a place where Shiva lord accounted the secret of immortality, Amar Katha along with his better half Parvati. Shiva was reluctant in the beginning but finally gave in .Shiva was keen on revealing the mystery in a place of remoteness away from any existence and thus chose the cave of Amarnath. In groundwork, Shiva never even took his Nandi (the Bull), which he was traveling at in Pahalgam. At Chandanwari, he freed the moon from his hair and on the edge of Lake Sheshnag, he unconfined the snakes. In the end, Shiva and Parvati cross the threshold of the Amarnath Cave where he commenced meditation on a deerskin. He then related the Amar Katha to Parvati. Unknowingly, couples of mating doves were listening to this conversation and came to know about the secret. Taking birth again and again, they have made the cave their everlasting residence.

The earliest epics relate an other story which goes happens to be like this. The valley of Kashmir was completely under water.It was a big waterbody. Kashyap Rishi exhausted the water by the way of number of rivers and rivulets. In those days Bhrigu Rishi was wandering in the Himalayas, it was he who had the first Dishpans of this sacred Cave. The climatic situation of Amarnath is very tentative. Rain or snowfall may occur at any place at any time during the Amarnath Yatra. It is to be kept in mind that unexpected changes in temperature might take place. Sunny weather may twist into rain and snow fall in a very short span of time. The temperature at times go up to -5 degree C.
