It might work temporarily, but it's not a good long-term eating plan. Here's why.

First of all, carbohydrates are an essential part of the human diet, just like fats and protein. But, there are healthy and unhealthy carbohydrates, just like there are healthier fats and healthier protein sources.

The unhealthy carbohydrates are referred to as "simple carbs". They include heavily processed and refined foods, such as white flour, white rice and white sugar. Any grains that have the germ and bran removed are included in this group.

White potatoes are also simple carbohydrates, even though they are vegetables. Most fruits, vegetables and whole grains are included in the group of complex carbs.
Simple carbs are digested quickly, which causes a spike in blood sugar and insulin levels, in healthy individuals. Complex carbs are digested slowly. They help to keep glucose and insulin, as well as other hormonal levels stable.

If you eat a lot of simple carbs on a regular basis, you have an increased risk of type II or adult onset diabetes. In recent years, people with type II diabetes have been advised to eat mostly low carb food, rather than just avoiding sugar, which was recommended in the past.

Research has shown that in people with borderline diabetes, the condition can be reversed with healthy diet, regular physical activity and an herbal supplement that contains green tea. In other words, type II diabetes is preventable.

Researchers believe that many of the health problems plaguing our society, particularly those that are considered age-related, are preventable.

In addition to type II diabetes, there is heart disease, high blood pressure, age-related macular degeneration and some types of cancer.

The best way to prevent those diseases is by eating a healthy diet. But, a diet that includes only low carb food is not that healthy.

Most fruits, vegetables and whole grains contain a large amount of dietary fiber. Research has shown that diets rich in fiber reduce the risk of colon cancer. People that eat a lot of multi-colored vegetables have a reduced risk of age-related eye diseases that can lead to blindness.

Diets high in fat and red meat are accompanied by a higher risk of heart disease. Those that include fish and seafood are accompanied by a reduced risk.

Fish, seafood, red meat, fatty foods and dairy products are all low carb food, but they aren't all good for you. Research suggests that returning to a diet similar to that which was eaten by ancient man may be the healthiest of all. That means cutting out the packaged, processed, and prepared, as well as most fast foods.

If you can do that and you eat the right foods at the right time of day, you can maintain a healthy weight for life and never go hungry. So, instead of learning more about low carb food, you might want to learn more about the right foods to eat at any given time of day.
